Roof Painting

Painting your tile roof will make it look years younger, and provide protection against future wear and tear...

Why have your roof painted?

One of the few downsides of living in a hot climate like ours is the effect that the extreme weather has on our roofs.  Over time the endless years of sunshine and heat, amazing storms, and high humidity takes its toll on the most robust of tile roofs.

Gradually, before your eyes, your gorgeous tile roof is not only looking sad and less appealing, it will be showing signs of wear and damage.

Getting your roof professionally painted doesn’t need to be done often, but it needs to be done correctly.  When it is, the benefits to you are worth it.

  • It increases the lifespan of your roof and reduces the amount you will need to spend on other types of maintenance
  • It minimises the damage caused by algae and other lichens that can grow on it.
  • It definitely improves the overall look and street appeal of your home, and improves it’s value

When should you have your roof painted?

You should think about getting your roof painted if you notice that it’s looking faded and worn. Roof painting will make your roof look years younger, and provide protection against future wear and tear.

The other time to have your roof painted is when you are having leaks or other repair work done.  The presence of even one leak is evidence that the roof is beginning to age and is vulnerable. This means it needs professional treatment, and part of reducing the risk of future problems is applying new paint.

What is the process for roof painting?

Roof painting is a process of several steps.

All roof painting work must be preceded by skilled roof restoration.  This involves cleaning, surface preparation and repair of any issues.  See the comprehensive nine steps we undertake here.

When we paint your roof, all of your solar panels, skylines, gables, etc. are masked up to prevent overspray. We cover any adjoining roofs or vehicles with drop sheets, and always consult neighbours if there is a risk of overspray onto their property.

The paint is applied by a top of the line Graco airless sprayer. The primer coat of paint is applied first, and acts as a sealer and undercoat to the rest of the work. After that, two coats of roof membrane are applied.

Finally, areas such as barge caps, lead flashings, and under flyover roofs are painted by hand. This is done in order to keep your home clean by preventing any paint overspray into the house itself.
